Each hex scores the convergence of three activity layers in that patch of a county: recent leasing, new drilling permits, and spud/completion activity. Where all three stack up, the hex burns hot — that is where an operator is committing capital, and where the minerals underneath are repricing.

A heat map is only useful if it ends at a name. Click any hex and Mineral Eagle lists the mineral owners whose interests fall under it — resolved from appraisal and county records, linked to the wells and operators already in play. The map is the entry point to the working file, not a dead-end picture.

What does a hex’s color actually mean?

Each hex aggregates three activity layers in that patch of the county — recent leasing, new drilling permits, and drilling/completion activity — into a single heat score. Hotter hexes mean those signals are converging there. It is a prioritization surface, not a valuation: it tells you where to look first, then you open the owners and underwrite.

How current is the activity on the map?

The hex surface is precomputed on a nightly refresh from the permit, lease, and well activity feeds, so a hot hex reflects the latest filings we have ingested for that county. As with the rest of the platform, the underlying records carry their source and last-updated date — see the data coverage page for cadence by dataset.

Which counties have opportunity maps?

Hex maps are rolled out across 13+ producing counties today, with more added on the same cadence as our data coverage. Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico are deepest. The data coverage page shows the current state and county matrix.

Can I get from the map to a list of owners?

Yes — that is the point. Click any hex to list the mineral owners whose interests fall under it, then open a lead to see interest, value, operator, and activity context. The map is the front door to ownership records and the acquisition pipeline, not a standalone chart.

Is this a GIS or title-mapping tool?

No. Map Intelligence is an opportunity-targeting surface for acquisitions — it shows where activity is converging on owners. It links to the county records you would verify against, but it is not a GIS plat suite or a title plant.
